Places To Get Your Income Taxes Done For Free In Savannah, Georgia.
71
It's that time of year again - it's tax season.
Not surprisingly, many employers have already begun handing out those infamous tax forms in hopes of helping their employees file quickly, start spending, and boost their local economy.
Fortunately for qualifying residents in Savannah, Georgia, in close working with the Chatham Savannah Asset Development Coalition, and in conjunction with the Neighborhood Improvement Association, the city has set up over a dozen sites where they can take advantage of free income tax preparation by IRS trained and certified volunteers.
* Free Is Nice - But Who Qualifies?
Yes, you heard right. Residents of Savannah, Georgia, have been extended the opportunity to have their 2009 income taxes prepared free of charge.
There is a catch however. Not every resident is able to participate in this free program.
Only low and moderate income families who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (ETC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) qualify for this provision.
Included amongst those qualified, are families earning less than $50,000 annually.
* I Qualify - But Where Do I Go?
The city has graciously set up more than a dozen Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites located in and near Savannah.
These sites usually operate from mid-January through April 15th... here's a listing of at least eight of those sites:
- Chatham County Admin. Bldg., 124 Bull Street
- Chatham City Apartments, 4309 Augusta Road
- Employment & Training Ctr. of Union Mission, 711 East Broad Street
- Equal Opportunity Authority, 618 W. Anderson Street
- Moses Jackson Gold Age Ctr., 1210 Richard Street
- Neighborhood Improvement Assoc., 1816 Abercorn Street
- Savannah Entrepreneurial Ctr., 801 East Gwinnett Street
- St. Joseph/Candler Hospital, 11700 Middleground Road
(visit this link for more information regarding the tax sites offering this free program in and around Savannah, Georgia, http://www.csadc.net/information)
In addition to filing your taxes free of charge, according to a local leaflet, the Citizens' of Savannah Update, the volunteers will file the qualifying residents taxes electronically, and will often allow you to receive said refund by direct deposit within 5-7 business days.
So if you reside in or closely around Savannah, Georgia, and you meet the qualifications, why not start the year off right by saving your family some extra cash?
Visit one of these sites and get your income taxes prepared for free this year. As the old adage goes, "a penny saved is a penny earned."
(* Tip: To see if your city or state offers a similar program, contact your local city's public information office as soon as possible)
